In a tragic incident, Pratik Pandey, a 35-year-old Indian-origin software engineer working at Microsoft, was found dead at the company’s office in Mountain View, California, earlier this month. According to authorities, he had entered the premises on the evening of August 19, and his body was discovered by the early hours of August 20. Police have ruled out foul play, stating there were no signs of suspicious activity.

Originally from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Pratik had built a successful life in the United States after moving there more than a decade ago. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal, in 2013, Pratik set his sights on bigger goals. He moved to the U.S. to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science at San Jose State University.

Before making the leap abroad, Pratik had already begun building his professional journey in India. He worked as a software engineer at Newgen Software in Noida and later at John Deere in Pune.

Once in the U.S., his career took off. Pratik built a strong and inspiring career in tech, working with some of the industry’s biggest names – including Apple, Illumina, and Walmart Labs – before joining Microsoft in 2020. At Microsoft, he was part of the team working on Microsoft Fabric and Synapse, where he helped develop advanced, data-driven tools that power critical systems used by businesses around the world.

On his LinkedIn profile, Pratik described himself as a “dedicated software engineer” with a passion for innovation – and those who knew him say that perfectly summed him up. He wasn’t just talented at what he did; he was the kind of colleague everyone appreciated.

Pratik had more than just codes in his life. He had a deep passion for football, and even enjoyed playing cricket and table tennis. His friends and family describe him as kind-hearted, easy to talk to, and always ready to help.

Pratik’s unexpected passing has left a big impact on his peers and family. The investigation is still underway, and authorities have confirmed no signs of foul play.
