  2. Mesh operation, WLAN

  3. Conclusion and table

With its two mesh repeaters named “WLAN amplifier” and “WLAN amplifier Plus”, the WLAN router Speedport 7 from Deutsche Telekom forms a colorful group. There is a system behind it: users should be able to distinguish the repeaters with different functions from the router at first glance, they say.

The plus with the second repeater is an LTE radio module that can bridge a failure of the main fiber optic or DSL Internet connection via mobile communications. This “internet failure protection” works, albeit with effects, as the test showed. The Wi-Fi 7 Mesh system also has a few peculiarities that we will get to the bottom of.

The Speedport routers have always specialized in the provider’s network, but the Siebener takes this to the extreme: The router can only be used on the Telekom network and can currently only be configured via the cloud using the Magenta app. According to Telekom, the majority of customers are satisfied with this because websites for configuring and controlling local devices feel unfamiliar to them today.

That was the excerpt from our heise Plus article “Wi-Fi 7 router for fiber optic and DSL in the test: Deutsche Telekom Speedport 7”. With a heise Plus subscription you can read the entire article.
