Every week, Netflix unleashes a bunch of new content for viewers to stream. Watching all of it would take you more time than humanly possible, so I start my Friday by selecting three top choices for the weekend and week to come. The last week of October brings the return of popular dark fantasy The Witcher, a new feature from Kathryn Bigelow, and more. Here are our top picks.

This Week on Netflix: PCMag’s Picks

A House Of Dynamite (Oct. 24)

The new political thriller from Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow, A House Of Dynamite pulls us back into a Cold War nightmare. When a single nuclear missile is launched at Chicago from an unknown source, the president and his cabinet need to decide how to respond in a way that prevents further casualties. Early reviews are super positive.

  • Director: Kathryn Bigelow

  • Cast: Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Jared Harris

  • Genre: Drama

  • Rating: R

  • IMDb Rating: 7.0/10

NOS4A2 (Oct. 29)

Based on the novel by Joe Hill, this SyFy horror series flew under the radar for two seasons, so we’re psyched to see Netflix giving it another shot at life. The series follows young artist Vic McQueen, who has an unexplained bond with Charlie Manx, an immortal parasite who feeds on the souls of children and imprisons them in “Christmasland,” where unhappiness is forbidden. It’s a lot of fun.

The Witcher: Season 4 (Oct. 30)

Liam Hemsworth steps into the role of Geralt of Rivia for The Witcher‘s fourth season, where our traveling troubleshooter contends with foes both political and supernatural. Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are separated by war and circumstance, each with their own goals and desires. With a reported budget of up to $25 million per episode, this is one of the streaming service’s most expensive shows.
