Thousands of users couldn’t load social media platform X this afternoon, just two days after another massive outage for the site.

DownDetector, a website which monitors internet outages, received over 11,000 reports of problems starting from around 1pm.

When we tried logging in, we could open the site and see historic notifications, but could not load new posts on the timeline. Instead, a message read: ‘Something went wrong. Try reloading.’

Problems were reported throughout the UK, and there were also a smaller number of reported issues in the US, though the site now seems to be back up and running.

Internet observatory Netblocks confirmed the outage, saying the site ‘has been experiencing international outages for some users for a second time in a week’.

They added that the incident was not related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering.

Formerly known as Twitter, X was renamed by Elon Musk to be the ‘everything app’ after he spent $44 billion to buy the social network in 2022.

The outage two days ago had ironic timing, as the site began crashing just as world’s-richest-man Musk posted a clip declaring: ‘I am a technologist. I build rockets and cars. I derive joy from seeing people enjoy the products that my companies make.’

Users were less than impressed by the service issues, with one commenting on DownDetector today: ”X – The Nothing App’.

Another wrote: ‘Twitter was down most of the day yesterday, and it’s down again today, what’s going on?’

But another left laughing emojis and said ‘they are making changes to x to make it better they said so dont panic it will be back’.
