Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun said the company currently has no plans to enter the U.S. car market, after photos showed a Xiaomi SU7 Max driving on California’s I-5 interstate with local test plates. He said the vehicle was likely purchased by U.S. peers or suppliers for benchmarking, rather than being part of any market entry plan.

Xiaomi President Lu Weibing has previously said the company plans to expand its auto business into overseas markets starting in 2027. [IThome, in Chinese]
