Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Motors on Wednesday launched the redesigned version of its P7 sports sedan, incorporating three Xpeng Turing computer chips which together can operate 2,200 trillion operations per second (TOPS), the highest rate in the world for an automobile. The company said more than 10,000 customers turned their orders into reservations just seven minutes after the car was launched at a starting price of RMB 219,800 ($30,750), a much lower entry price than expected. Analysts from China’s Citic Securities estimated the total order intake for the car to have already surpassed 70,000. Xpeng’s other newly-launched model, the G7 crossover, features the same technology, which the company says is necessary to bring Level 3 semi-autonomous driving capabilities to everyday cars.
