Mike Blumenkrantz as the lead developer of Mesa’s Zink OpenGL-on-Vulkan driver implementation and working for Valve as part of their Linux graphics team has been spending much time recently optimizing for OpenCL with the Rusticl Gallium3D driver.

Following other recent Zink changes for working on DaVinci Resolve support with OpenCL by way of Rusticl, another notable merge request is now pending.

Supporting the cl_khr_image2d_from_buffer extension is now pending for Zink. The cl_khr_image2d_from_buffer extension is a core OpenCL 2.0 feature and used for creating a 2D image from an existing OpenCL buffer memory object. The cl_khr_image2d_from_buffer extension can be used by DaVinci Resolve and Mike Blumenkrantz is reporting a “nice performance boost” with this new support.
