12 million victims, individuals and professionals, the data leak which hit the ANTS has just been recognized by the Ministry of the Interior. We take stock of the situation.

The Ministry of the Interior has confirmed that a data leak had hit its National Agency for Secure Titles, ANTS. On the Place Beauvau side it is reported that 11.7 million accounts would be affected. The information, which we had already relayed earlier in the day, did not mention the number of victims. Now we know that this leak is massive and that pending further investigations, it could prove even more critical.

This data leak follows a security incident which allegedly took place on April 15 on the ANTS portal. For the moment, the Ministry of the Interior wants to be rather reassuring, explaining that “this data does not allow illegitimate access to the nominative account on the portal”.

In the wake of this declaration, the Minister of Justice, Laurent Nuñez, contacted “at the same time the General Inspectorate of Administration to establish the chain of responsibility in this serious incident, digital security being a major collective issue”, explains the ministry in its press release.

Identity card? Passport ? What about hacked data?

If the official communication clearly recognizes that there is indeed “personal data” which has been corrupted, in particular the first and last names, the email address or the date of birth of users, there would currently be no proof of access to more sensitive data.

“At this stage, the investigations carried out exclude the disclosure of additional data transmitted as part of the completion of the various procedures, such as attachments and biometric data,” concludes the ministry.
