Long a proprietary feature of Apple and its operating systems, AirDrop rapid file transfer technology is gradually conquering competing smartphones. For almost a year, Google and Apple have been working together to make it easier to transfer files between iOS and Android.

Last year, Google took a first step in its process with the announcement of Pixel 10 compatibility with AirDrop. The Mountain View firm has just announced that it will go even further in the coming days, with the arrival of AirDrop on the entire Google Pixel 9 range.

Concretely, it is the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold which are affected by this notable new feature. AirDrop will land on these smartphones very soon, either via an operating system update or via remote activation from the servers.

Since the beginning of this article, we have been talking about “the arrival of AirDrop” on Google Pixel. In reality, it is Quick Share, Google’s in-house technology, which becomes compatible with the Apple protocol. AirDrop remains a technology belonging to Apple, and it is not on the agenda for the Cupertino company to integrate it natively on Android.

When your Pixel is compatible with AirDrop, you will then be able to quickly exchange files with an iPhone or other Apple product. Google also plans to extend this compatibility to more Android devices in the coming months. As soon as your device is updated with the new feature, you will of course be informed.
