Apple has announced that it plans to start manufacturing one of its Mac computers, the Mac mini, in the United States starting this year.
Sabih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer, shared the development as part of a video interview with The Wall Street Journal. Specifically, Apple is referring to a Foxconn facility in Houston, Texas.
“We’re very excited to tell you that later this year we will be beginning Mac mini manufacturing right here in this space,” Khan tells the Journal during a tour of a plant in Arizona. When asked how many Mac mini computers Apple makes per year, Khan answers that Apple makes “thousands every week.”
“Over time, we want to scale Mac mini here to serve our customers in this area,” Khan says when asked about global manufacturing of the desktop computer. The Mac mini is currently manufactured in Vietnam and China. Apple previously pushed the low-volume 2019 Mac Pro as Apple’s made in America desktop computer.
The video also shows never-before-seen footage inside GlobalWafers and TSMC facilities located in the United States. Both the Mac mini manufacturing announcement and the WSJ piece focused on Apple’s efforts to bring manufacturing to the US are undoubtedly timed with President Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address, scheduled for Tuesday, February 24.
