“André Is an Idiot” is not a standard end-of-life documentary, which is exactly why it has drawn so much attention. Directed by Tony Benna, the film follows André Ricciardi, an irreverent advertising executive who receives a terminal diagnosis after skipping a routine colonoscopy, then decides to document what comes next with curiosity, honesty and a refusal to lose his sense of humor.

Here’s how to watch “André Is an Idiot” online from anywhere with a VPN – and potentially for free.

‘André Is an Idiot’ streaming, TV channel, date

In the U.K., “André Is an Idiot” will be available to stream on Tuesday, April 7, 2026,
• WATCH FREE — BBC iPlayer (U.K.)
• Watch anywhere — try NordVPN 100% risk free

The film also stands out formally, mixing candid footage with stop-motion animation to tell a story about mortality that is as odd and funny as it is painful.

That approach clearly connected with the audience. “André Is an Idiot” won the Audience Award at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival and by April 2026, it is reaching viewers through a mix of TV, streaming and limited theatrical screenings, depending on where you live. It’s currently rated 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Billed as “the most life-affirming film about death” ever, it is showing in selected theaters. But our streaming guide below reveals how to stream “André Is an Idiot” online and even for free.

In the U.K., “André Is an Idiot” has a clear TV and streaming home. It airs on BBC Four at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, and will then be available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer the same day.

The documentary also began a limited U.K. theatrical run on February 6, 2026, through Dogwoof, so some cinema screenings may still be available depending on your area.

Outside the U.K.? You’ll probably need a VPN to reach BBC iPlayer just as you would at home. For that, we recommend NordVPN (try risk-free for 30 days). See our special deal below…

Watch ‘André Is an Idiot’ from anywhere

If you’re traveling and BBC iPlayer is blocked where you are, a VPN (virtual private network) can help you keep using your usual apps more securely by connecting back to your home country. You still need to follow each service’s terms and conditions and, for iPlayer, you must have a valid UK TV Licence.

We’ve tested many VPNs, and NordVPN is our top pick for streaming. We’ve got a stellar deal for you below…

Using a VPN is simple.

1. Download VPN app. NordVPN (try risk-free for 30 days) is our pick.

2. Select your country. For example, choose a U.K. server to access BBC iPlayer when traveling abroad.

3. Open your streaming app and play as normal. Easy.

Can I watch ‘André Is an Idiot’ in the U.S.?

In the U.S., you can watch ‘André Is an Idiot’ in selected theaters. For example, we found April screening at Omaha’s Ruth Sokoloff Theater. But it’s not available to watch at home on any streaming services. There is some talk of it appearing on Apple TV but that’s merely a rumour at this stage.

However, if you’re a Brit visiting the States you can watch ‘André Is an Idiot’ whilst in the U.S. You’ll need a good VPN to access your usual free BBC account – we find NordVPN works best. Plus you can try it risk free for 30 days.

Can I watch ‘André Is an Idiot’ in Australia?

Over in Australia, we’re struggling to find it in cinemas – let alone on a streaming service. It’s not available to watch at home right now.

However, if you’re a Brit visiting Australia use a good VPN to access your usual free BBC account – we find NordVPN works best.
