The Bavarian manufacturer unveils a major update to its luxury electric sedan. By integrating innovations from the new Neue Klasse technological platform, the BMW i7 promises record autonomy and a complete overhaul of its digital interior. For BMW, it is even “the most ambitious update in the history of the BMW Group”.
Although the imposing illuminated grille is retained, the exterior design is refined with the integration of new minimalist crystal headlights and completely redesigned taillights. However, it is inside that the metamorphosis is most spectacular. The dashboard now accommodates the Panoramic iDrive system, an ultra-wide display complemented by a 14.6-inch passenger screen supplied as standard.
For rear passengers, the huge 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen panel lowered from the roof – now equipped with a camera for video conferencing – transforms the cabin into a real private cinema room, all enhanced by an immersive audio system with up to 36 speakers.

Artificial intelligence at the service of autonomy
On the engine side, the brand’s electric flagship reaches a decisive milestone in terms of energy efficiency. Thanks to the adoption of sixth generation cylindrical cells, developed with equipment manufacturer Rimac, offering a 20% higher density, the sedan has a battery pack with 112.5 kWh of useful energy compared to 101.7 kWh for the current i7. This technical development allows the vehicle to claim up to 728 kilometers of autonomy according to the WLTP cycle, a jump of more than 100 km compared to the previous generation. The charging power increases to 250 kW, guaranteeing a transition from 10 to 80% battery in just 28 minutes.
The new i7 is available in two 100% electric versions, the 50 xDrive (455 hp) and the 60 xDrive (544 hp), to which are added two plug-in hybrid variants marketed in November. The integration of the Amazon Alexa+ assistant streamlines the voice commands of this flagship.

Marketing from the month of hand
Presented as a world premiere at the Beijing motor show, this rolling technological showcase will begin its commercial career from May 28, 2026 in France. The French price has not yet been revealed, but the new i7 should logically remain in the same stratosphere as the current generation. You should expect a starting price around 120,000 to 130,000 euros.

Produced at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing, the new 7 Series also takes a more sustainable approach, with Gen6 battery cells made partly from renewable electricity and rims incorporating up to 70% secondary aluminum. The BMW i7, however, arrives in a segment where competition is intensifying: the restyled Mercedes-Benz EQS now claims 925 km of WLTP autonomy, and the Volvo ES90 is also shaking up the codes of electric luxury.
