WhatsApp is preparing to deploy a new “Liquid Glass” interface to better match that of iOS 26.

iPhones running iOS 26 already benefit from the “Liquid Glass” design, but that does not mean that all applications are already compatible. WhatsApp is working on integrating these transparency effects on the Apple brand’s smartphones.

The principle of the effect “ Liquid Glass » introduced by Apple consists of playing on the translucency and superimposed depth effects of the interface. On WhatsApp pour iOSthis results in semi-transparent elements. WhatsApp would also work to offer the same visual effects on the keyboard and context menus. For the moment, the deployment is being done gradually and WhatsApp is closely monitoring the impact of these changes on iPhone performance. This is why not all users of the iOS version of the application are in the same boat. Some already see some transparency elements, while others still have the old design.

A translucent input field

The most striking visual change is undoubtedly that of the bar where you type your messages, which will become floating. It will therefore no longer be fixed at the bottom of the screen and will reveal what is behind it, such as your wallpaper or your messages. Same thing for the navigation bar, where the name of your contact is displayed, which would become transparent. This means that your messages would remain slightly visible below the bar as you scroll through the chat.

WhatsApp would also test a new voice note reader so that it integrates perfectly with this new “Liquid Glass” design. All of these changes are still in beta and require some adjustments from WhatsApp before they can be deployed to the stable version of the application.
