Anthropic has introduced Claude Design, a new AI tool for designing designs, prototypes, presentations and websites. The experimental tool, released as a research preview by Anthropic Labs, is based on the new AI model Claude Opus 4.7. It is available to subscribers of the Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscription plans at no additional cost. However, for enterprise organizations, Claude Design is disabled by default and must first be enabled by administrators in the organization settings.

When it comes to design issues, Anthropic has been cautious so far. The text AI answered questions about images. But users searched for graphics or even images in vain. With the artifacts, Anthropic recently offered interactive components and diagrams in the chat.
Developers still in focus
That’s now changing, with Anthropic staying true to its focus on developers, but also remaining interesting for non-developers. Example videos show how, for example, a website with background animation is created. AI should also help with the design of apps. After an initial prompt, users can interact with the model and enter comments in the feedback, discuss the design via chat or influence spacing, colors and layout using AI-generated sliders.
If you don’t want to start from scratch, you can import existing design files and programming projects. In this way, favorite colors, typography and components can be taken into account. Images, documents from Word, Excel and PowerPoint or code can also be imported. Elements of an existing website can also be integrated using the capture tool.
Declaration of war on Google
Claude Design is somewhat reminiscent of Google Stitch, which was presented at the Google I/O developer conference in 2025. However, Anthropic’s tool is broader. And it even makes it possible to further process created designs directly in Claude Code. Canva, which also offers AI tools for design, was integrated as the first export partner. Figma also now enables the integration of external AI models for design workflows and can further process designs from Claude Design.

With Claude Design, Anthropic strikes a double blow: On the one hand, it is a declaration of war against Google, which seemed to position itself as the laughing third party in the duel between OpenAI and Anthropic. On the other hand, OpenAI has a weak point: OpenAI has a very good image AI, but no comparable design tool. OpenAI has just launched a counterattack against Claude Code with a major Codex update. It is expected that OpenAI will not leave this publication unanswered for long.
