During its WWDC 2026 conference, Apple quietly updated its app review guidelines. The Cupertino group warns developers that some of their applications could be simply removed from theApp Store.

A rule specifically targets applications deemed to be of low quality or present in categories that are already overloaded.

Saturated categories on the App Store and a risk of spam

Previously, Apple cited apps ” flatulence, burping, flashlight, clairvoyance, dating, alcohol consumption, Kama Sutra. “Now, the list adds apps for wallpapers, sound effects and even simple timers.

The your employee is firmwith a threat of exclusion from the Apple Developer Program for repeated submissions of this type. Proposals must offer ” a significantly different or improved experience “.

Apple writes again: ” We may remove these apps from the App Store in the future if they are not updated, improved, or do not attract users. “

Opportunistic developers singled out

A warning is addressed to developers who make little effort to provide quality experiences, and opportunistic creations that ultimately harm discovery on the App Store.

At TechCrunch, Apple says its existing App Store Improvements process already alerts developers when their apps are outdated or poorly downloaded, giving them a chance to improve them before risking removal.
