Apple has released preview documentation for its new Ads Platform API, outlining a transition away from the existing Campaign Management API. Here are the details.
What is this API for?
Apple Ads is Apple’s advertising platform that enables developers and marketers to promote apps across the App Store.
Alongside the company’s web-based interface, Apple Ads offers the Campaign Management API, currently in its fifth version, which provides a programmatic way to build, manage, and track campaigns.
However, as spotted by Aaron Perris, Apple has now confirmed that this API will be sunset on January 26, 2027, as part of a broader transition to its new Ads Platform API, which will also handle Apple Maps ads, in addition to App Store ads.
In a new preview guide called Apple Ads Platform API Preview Release Notes, the company has confirmed that the Apple Ads Campaign Management API v5 will be going away early next year, and offers details about the transition to the new API:
The Apple Ads Campaign Management API v5 will be sunset on January 26, 2027. Migration to the Platform API is recommended as early as possible to avoid any disruptions and take advantage of enhanced functionality.
Apple adds that once the deadline passes, the existing API will stop working entirely, meaning users will no longer be able to manage campaigns or access reporting through it.
In the new document, Apple offers a thorough overview of the transition, including examples of how the new Platform API differs from the existing Campaign Management API, as well as details on new features, expanded capabilities, and updated tooling for developers.
