Nintendo has decided to increase prices for its subscription service Nintendo Switch Online. The announcement has just been made for the Japan with implementation from July 1, 2026. The price change will affect all plans, including automatic renewals.
New prices announced in Japan
Price increases vary depending on the duration and type of subscription. For example, the individual plan for one month goes from 306 to 400 yen, an increase of more than 30%.
The individual annual subscription increases from 2,400 to 3,000 yen (+25%), while the most complete family plan, the Nintendo Switch Online + Additional Pack, increases from 8,900 to 9,900 yen, a more moderate increase of around 11%.
Why this price increase?
Nintendo justifies its decision by the need for a proper realignment between regions, due to the continued weakness in the yen against the American dollar. Historically low levels have been reached.
Before the hike, a 12-month subscription in Japan cost the equivalent of $15, compared to $20 in the United States. The new pricing will bring the Japanese price to around $19, narrowing the gap significantly.
Will Europe and France be affected?
For now, Nintendo has only confirmed that Japan and South Korea will see their prices increase. This is therefore the expectation for Europe and France, which are not immune to the price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 game console next September.
