On Tuesday, China Electronics’s subsidiary Kylin Software released KylinOS V11 at the 2025 China Operating System Industry Conference, marking the launch of the first commercial operating system in China built on Linux Kernel 6.6. The release signals a new stage of high stability and enhanced security in China’s push to strengthen core capabilities in operating systems.

Why it matters: KylinOS V11 is regarded as a major step forward in China’s independent software ecosystem. The system strengthens self-reliance in critical industries such as government, finance, and telecommunications, while its innovations in AI integration, computing power scheduling, and system security boost growing competitiveness in next-generation infrastructure.

Details: China’s KylinOS V11 is widely applied across major national projects and key sectors such as government, finance, energy, education, and healthcare, while also meeting the diverse intelligent needs of both individual and enterprise users.

  • KylinOS V11 integrates AI across both office and server scenarios. It features a pre-installed AI subsystem and assistant, enabling one-click activation of local or cloud resources, supporting text-to-image generation and intelligent Q&A. The system also optimizes AI deployment, enhances inference efficiency, and leverages heterogeneous computing (CPU/GPU/NPU) to balance energy consumption and boost model concurrency for enterprise AI upgrades.
  • Security is one of the core strengths of KylinOS V11. The system provides comprehensive file protection through tools such as secure vaults, anti-screenshot functions, encrypted transfers, and file shredders. The platform establishes a closed-loop control system that, through a tiered policy mechanism, enables refined management and meets enterprise-level endpoint control needs.
  • The KylinOS has supported major national aerospace projects, including the Tianwen Mars mission and the space station. It has completed over 100,000 hours of fault-free operation, according to the company.

Context: The KylinOS V11 ecosystem has already completed over seven million hardware and software adaptations, ensuring compatibility with mainstream domestic CPUs, GPUs, and accelerator cards.

  • The Kylin SDK provides more than 2,200 developer interfaces, supported by a dedicated developer forum and toolkits. Currently, KylinOS has been deployed in over 16 million instances across key sectors. It has maintained the No.1 share in China’s Linux market for 14 consecutive years.
