China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom have launched commercial trials for eSIM services, marking China’s move toward a “SIM-free” era. Approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on October 13, China Unicom has opened nationwide appointments with over 70,000 users, China Mobile offers app-based registration, and China Telecom requires in-store activation. Apple CEO Tim Cook also announced that the China version of the iPhone Air, supporting eSIM only, will go on sale on October 22.
