Zeekr’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), the 9X, is expected to go on sale at a price range of between RMB 500,000 and RMB 600,000 ($69,700-$83,640) this autumn, and will not have an all-electric variant, the company’s executives told Chinese reporters on Wednesday. The 9X is the first model featuring Zeekr’s Super Hybrid System, which the company said allows for a 900-volt electrical architecture for fast charging, making it capable of charging from 20% to 80% in just nine minutes. By comparison, the normal voltage for most EVs on the market is around 400 volts. It has an all-electric range of 380 km, powered by a 70 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery pack from CATL, while rivals’ offerings, such as Li Auto’s L9 and Aito’s M9, travel less than 300 km in all-electric mode. There is still room for improvement in the driving range however, vice president Xu Yun said, adding that 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) of range is for now unachievable for a full-size, all-electric sports utility vehicle.
