Dragonfly: Qualcomm announces the brand name of its upcoming server processors

In the future, Qualcomm wants to be involved wherever computing power (preferably that for AI) is required – this is how Qualcomm’s Computex keynote can be summed up succinctly. The portfolio currently starts with wireless headphones, where the chips can only consume a few milliwatts, and extends to hardware for (if possible) autonomously driving cars, which corresponds plus-minus to the order of kilowatts.

In the near future, the upper limit is expected to move into the range of several hundred kilowatts, as Qualcomm plans to enter server processors for large data centers. The ambitions have been known for a long time, but now it is becoming concrete: At the end of his speech, Amon revealed the logo and the future brand name: the chips will be called Dragonfly. So the company stays true to the dragon puns: mobile processors are known to be called Snapdragon; the embedded rail runs under Dragonwing.

Qualcomm put a server cabinet on stage to announce the new brand name Dragonfly and the associated logo.

Qualcomm did not want to give any further details, but only referred to June 24th in the subsequent question and answer session for press representatives. There is an investor event in New York that day, where Qualcomm wants to take a deeper look at its cards.
