Some “tailor-made” stories that Dreambeans generated after extensive data consumption.

JR Raphael, Foundry

In my opinion, the only remotely positive thing about these examples are the occasionally (more on that later) flattering caricatures of me and my wife. Otherwise, when consuming these stories, the main feeling is that the AI includes a lot of details that are a little too personal – such as the names and interests of family members.

Regarding the specific content of the stories themselves: I had I actually got involved with loudspeaker systems not too long ago. My wife and I also went to the Arts Festival mentioned by KI. However, I have never had any contact with hand-woven textiles, nor have I ever expressed any interest in “Scary Movie 6”. And even though I actually can’t dance, I’m not a fan of the band Genesis.

Of course, I also discussed the results of Dreambeans with my wife, friends and family members, all of whom pass as the average users mentioned above. Every single one of these people was repulsed by Dreambeans – without exception. Which is no wonder, because the AI is not only invasive – it is also slightly or completely wrong at times. Other examples that support this:

JR Raphael with Airpods is a truly hair-raising, unrealistic AI hallucination.

Let’s go through these stories one by one:

  • I love the series Seinfeldeven though it’s been a while since I actively followed them.
  • I am notoriously allergic to Apple products and avoid them wherever possible.
  • I don’t live in the same city as my brother – and it’s really scary how he was caricatured by the AI and dragged into a discussion about Plex because he would 100% have no interest in it.
  • My editorial newsletters run through a service called Kit – not Beehiiv (which is actually mentioned in various places on both my websites and my emails).
  • And: Admittedly, my hairline is no longer what it once was – but I’m not (yet) as bald as Dreambeans illustrates here.

Another example I have here not was a story that visualized me in dungarees installing “coated stainless steel wire” for gallery screens – something I clearly lack the skills for in reality. This probably came from the reference to a municipal art gallery (including various false or hallucinated details) that was connected to the recent death of my mother – who was also mentioned by name in passing. I don’t think I need to elaborate on how disturbing, inappropriate and intrusive this felt to me.

And the experience didn’t become any less “creepy”: my children were also caricatured by the AI and their information was processed in the stories – without the information generated being helpful or informative. In addition, Dreambeans also produced “fake interests” on this occasion:
