Shopping, commuting, longer and shorter trips and even cycling trips: e-bikes can be all-rounders, not just pure fun machines. For some purposes they can even replace the car. We asked their manufacturers to test three bikes with different drives.

The Citylite:ON comes from Canyon, a bike suitable for everyday use with two luggage racks. The rear one is part of the standard equipment, the front one costs 50 euros extra. Canyon installs the Bosch Performance Line PX as a drive. With a price of just under 3000 euros, the Citylite:ON is by far the cheapest model in this comparison.

  • E-bikes for city traffic and touring are versatile.
  • The manufacturers don’t install the most powerful engines, but that’s not a disadvantage.
  • There are big differences in the quality and cost of the apps.

The Cilo Tanay HX has a motor from Shimano, the EP600. The Swiss manufacturer, long known for its racing bikes, has now ventured from the road to the trail and is concentrating on mountain bikes. The Tanay HX moves between the genres; the full-suspension e-bike appears visually as a mixture of a mountain bike and a touring bike and costs 6,500 euros.
