Humanoids in various use cases in the Humanoid Robots Experience Lab.

Humanoid robots linked to AI are currently the focus of further automation. While large companies such as Mercedes-Benz with the Apollo or BMW with Figure and Aeon as well as Siemens with the HMND 01 Alpha are testing this new robot species in pilot projects in their own factories, SMEs often lack this opportunity.
This is where the Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technology and Image Evaluation (IOSB) comes in with the idea of the Humanoid Robots Experience Lab. At the Karlsruhe, Lemgo and Ilmenau locations, users will be given the opportunity to evaluate in concrete application scenarios where and under what conditions the use of humanoids actually offers added value.
More than just two-legged machines
Jürgen Beyerer, director of the Fraunhofer IOSB, is concerned with much more than just the external form: “At the core is the question of how artificial intelligence can act in our real world in the future: in environments that are not perfectly prepared and in interaction with people who should retain responsibility.” Ultimately, it’s about the brain behind the machine – reliable autonomy and a deep understanding of the environment.
