Free offers Freebox Crystal subscribers to migrate to Freebox Pop for €29.99/month, with a price locked in after one year and without commitment. A major technology upgrade (Wi-Fi 7.5 Gbps) free, but reserved for certain customers.
A new offer called Freebox Pop Fidélité has just appeared in the subscriber area of certain Freenauts. Spotted by Tiino-X83 on X, it is aimed at subscribers still equipped with a Freebox Crystal and constitutes one of the most advantageous migration proposals that Free has offered to its historic customers. But not all subscribers to old equipment are in the same boat.
The Crystal, a relic that resists
Launched in 2006 under the name Freebox V5, then revamped in 2013 to become the Freebox Crystal, this box unofficially retired at the end of 2025. Free had however set a firm deadline of December 31 of last year. Several months later, some of the subscribers concerned have still not taken the plunge.
The reasons for this resistance are understandable. The Crystal remains functional for basic ADSL use, and migrating to a more recent offer has until now implied a price increase. Except that maintaining this model has a cost for Free: technical support on obsolete technology, network compatibility to manage, Wi-Fi 4 equipment on a network which has greatly evolved. The operator has therefore decided to release an offer attractive enough to convince the last holdouts.
What the Freebox Pop Fidélité offer offers
The Freebox Pop Fidélité uses the price of the standard Freebox Pop, i.e. 29.99 euros per month, but with a guarantee that this price will not change after one year. This is precisely where the advantage lies: the standard Pop increases to 39.99 euros after twelve months for new subscribers. The Loyalty version eliminates this increase, for a fixed price without commitment.
The migration is free of charge and all services and options already subscribed to are kept unchanged. The technological leap is considerable: the Crystal, limited to ADSL and Wi-Fi 4, gives way to a Freebox Pop compatible with fiber up to 5 Gbit/s, Wi-Fi 7 with repeater, Android TV decoder and unlimited calls. For subscribers still on ADSL, Pop remains compatible with the copper network and fiber migration is not imposed. The exchange of equipment is done via a parcel relay, the old box being returned when the new model is withdrawn. To check your eligibility, simply log in to your Freebox subscriber area.
Freebox One subscribers left behind
The offer is reserved for Crystal subscribers. Customers equipped with a Freebox One, support for which also ended at the end of 2025, do not currently benefit from any preferential plan of this type. If they wish to migrate, they will have to turn to Freebox Pop at the standard price of 39.99 euros per month.”
Finally, note that the situation is still different for the rare Crystal subscribers in non-unbundled areas not eligible for fiber: these face an outright termination of their subscription, with no alternative offered by the operator.
