Google has closed nearly 400 vulnerabilities

Google has discovered 382 vulnerabilities in Chrome’s code, including fifteen security flaws considered critical. They could allow a hacker to take full control of your computer. The update is part of an explosion of massive patches deployed by Google to protect its users.

Google has just launched the deployment of version 151 of Chrome. This new version fixes a total of 382 vulnerabilities identified in the browser code. The update closes many more flaws than usual. For example, one of the latest patches deployed by Google only targeted 33 Chrome breaches. A month earlier, in May 2026, Google had nevertheless reached 150 flaws corrected with a single update, and that was already exceptional. The record remains attributed to the June patch, which closed 429 vulnerabilities. Regardless, we can see a continued escalation in the number of faults since the beginning of spring 2026.

The explosion in the number of flaws discovered, and corrected, in Chrome’s core likely stems from the rise of generative artificial intelligence. More and more researchers are using AI to analyze code in search of flaws. This is also the case for Google researchers. These notably use Big Sleep, a cybersecurity AI coupled with Gemini, to spot vulnerabilities before they are exploited by cybercriminals. In its communications, Google did not mention the role of AI in the discovery of the 382 security flaws.

15 critical flaws in Chrome’s code

Among the 382 flaws unearthed, Google uncovered 15 vulnerabilities considered critical. As a reminder, Google qualifies a flaw as “critical” when a hacker can exploit it remotely, without the Internet user having to click on anything in particular, to take control of Chrome and, by extension, the entire computer. Typically, the exploitation of a critical Chrome flaw relies on a booby-trapped web page.

The vast majority of critical vulnerabilities are memory bugs, which occur when the browser tries to access an area of memory that has already been freed. Sensitive components, such as extensions, GPU, Bluetooth, WebUSB protocol, or Chromoting, Chrome’s remote desktop module, are among the vulnerable sections.

Google also fixed a large number of high severity vulnerabilitiesnotably in the Chromecast code, the automatic update module, the SVG format, or even secure browsing. As always, the precise technical details of some of the vulnerabilities will remain temporarily confidential while the majority of users install the patch on Chrome.

The update is currently rolling out to Windows, macOS, Linux, and iOS. Unsurprisingly, Google recommends that all Chrome users install the update without delay. Go to the “About Google Chrome” menu (accessible via the three small dots at the top right), let the browser automatically install updates, then click “Relaunch” to complete the operation. As always, we recommend that you enable automatic Chrome updates to make your life easier.
