Mark Zimmermann, author, mobile and AI expert

Mark Zimmermann

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the world of work – and with the emergence of autonomous AI agents, the next stage of development is already just around the corner. But does this mean the end of many professions or does AI open up new opportunities for companies and employees?

In the current episode of Tech Talk – Voice of Digital, the podcast from Computerwoche and CIO, AI expert and author Mark Zimmermann explains why lifelong learning is becoming more important than ever before and how companies can actively shape change instead of being overwhelmed by it.

Get out of the victim role

In his book with the dramatic title “Your Job Has Three Years” (the proceeds go to charity), Mark has analyzed industry by industry and worked out what impact AI and especially Agentic AI will have there.

But his work is not intended to prepare readers for losing their job in three years. Rather, the AI expert is convinced that there is still a good chance of adapting to this.

“However, people should not assume a kind of victim role, but rather consider how we can proactively shape change with our jobs, in our organizations and in our education system,” explains Zimmermann. “The AI will not disappear and it will soon no longer be as bad as it is today.”

From his point of view, the upcoming massive shift in the labor market due to AI does not require lifelong learning – as is often stated – but also “unlearning”. Many people define themselves by what they do,” says the book author. “If that breaks away or changes, then it is sometimes associated with a crisis of meaning.”

You can find out what else Zimmermann recommends in his book or in compressed form in our podcast – right here or on the podcast platform of your choice.
