Huawei and Chinese automaker SAIC have received more than 50,000 preorders for their first electric vehicle under the “Shangjie” brand just 18 hours after it was unveiled Monday, starting at RMB 169,800 ($23,738). The Shangjie H5 midsize crossover is available to order with a refundable deposit of RMB 1,000. It features the latest version of Huawei’s Advanced Driving System and HarmonyOS, Huawei’s alternative to Google’s Android operating system. The car is offered in both all-electric and extended-range hybrid variants. The top-end all-electric model has a maximum driving range of 655 kilometers (407 miles), while the hybrid version can travel up to 1,360 kilometers (845 miles) on a full battery and tank. By comparison, Tesla’s standard-range Model Y costs RMB 263,500 and has an advertised range of 593 kilometers (369 miles). [TechNode reporting]
