What can justify spending money? 15.99 euros per month for Disney+ ? Simultaneous playback on 4 devices, Dolby Atmos quality… For many, the answer lies in the image quality and formats offered by the subscription streaming giant. This was also the main argument of movie fans subscribing to Disney+: the availability of Dolby Vision and HDR10+ standards for less than 20 euros. On compatible televisions, it was possible to enjoy the best image quality available with the presence of 4K Ultra HD and HDR.

But now, in February, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ disappeared from the viewing options and features of the Premium subscription. Without warning its customers, the platform withdrew these two options. When asked about this change, the company cited a technical problem on a European scale. She announced that she was actively working to resolve this problem. At the end of February, HDR10 was forgotten. Without warning, Disney+ removed mention of the characteristics of its most expensive formula. According to information from our colleagues at DigitalHDR10 is back. Indeed, this Tuesday, February 3, we see that the standard is once again one of the options offered by Disney+ Premium.

What is happening?

According to information relayed by the media Flatpanelshd last February, this disappearance can be explained by a legal action launched by the company Interdigital. The latter claims that Disney+ has infringed its patents. The Munich court has reportedly ordered the Burbank firm to cease all use of HDR10+ and Dolby Vision formats. The disappearance of HDR10 a few days later seems to be part of the same affair. His return is therefore a rather good sign. However, it is still difficult to know when the other two technologies will be restored.

However, they are more advanced. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision improve brightness and colors dynamicallyunderstand each scene, even each image. For its part, HDR10 applies to all content and is therefore less precise. In short, Disney+ Premium customers still have to settle for a limited viewing experience. Disney+ has not yet responded to our request for comment. Customers could still contact customer service to obtain more information.
