According to data from the Spanish Association of Robotics and Automation (AER Automation) the implementation of industrial robots in different sectors of the economy continues to rise, and everything indicates that its growth is accelerating. So much so that In 2023 alone, more than 5,000 industrial robots will be installed in Spain48% more than those installed in 2022. This is the second time that five thousand robot installations have been exceeded in Spain in a single year.
AER Automation data, collected from declarant-manufacturer members of the association that encompass 80% of the actual market size, has already been submitted to the IFR, the International Federation of Robotics, for inclusion in the World Robotics report 2024.
Among them, the 17% increase in sales of service robotics installations, which encompasses both mobile and social robotics. In relation to these facilities, Spain stands out in its manufacturing, with a high percentage of exports. So much so that it is estimated that it reaches 80% of the total production of this type of robots.
By installation volume, the transportation and logistics sector recorded the highest number of service robotics installations of the total Service Robotics: 61%. As for the Consumer Robots category, it already reaches 16% of the total, and in 2023 it has doubled its sales.
The same has happened in hospitality, which already reaches 10% of the total Service Robotics. The Professional Cleaning area also registered a significant increase in the implementation of robots. Of course, in sales, the most notable area is Professional Service Robots (PSR), with 81% of total robot sales in 2023, 8% more than in 2022.
Regarding the industrial robots market in Spain, last year it registered an increase in the concentration of the sector, since its three main verticals account for 87% of the total installations. In 2022 they amounted to 80%.
He The leading sector in installations continues to be the automotive sector, which accounts for 53% of the total of industrial robotics sales, and which in 2023 has registered a year-on-year growth of 152% in terms of number of installations. In second place is the metal sector, which has grown by 14% in robot installations and already accounts for 23% of the total. Third place is occupied by the food area, which although it fell by 13% in facilities, registered 14% of the total.
As for the rest of the sectors, it is worth highlighting the growth of the Electricity and Electronics sector, which has registered an increase of 158% in the number of industrial robot installations compared to the previous year.
