Insta360 is finally launching a camera to rival the DJI Osmo Pocket

Insta360 has officially confirmed it’s entering the pocket gimbal camera market.

During its annual meeting, CEO Liu Jingkang announced a new handheld camera called Luna. It is set to launch in the first half of 2026.

That timeline puts it on a collision course with DJI’s next-generation Pocket camera. It also marks Insta360’s first serious attempt to challenge DJI’s dominance in the compact, stabilised vlogging space.

While full specifications haven’t been revealed, early details suggest Luna won’t be a simple clone of the existing formula. According to the announcement, the camera will feature a dual-camera setup, alongside upgraded video capabilities and advanced stabilisation. Previous leaks have also pointed to a modular design. This could potentially allow interchangeable components — something that could differentiate it from DJI’s more traditional approach.

Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but early reports suggest Luna could land between $499 and $699. This price would place it squarely in premium territory.

The move makes strategic sense. Insta360 already leads the 360-camera market with models like the Insta360 X5 and Ace Pro 2. It has steadily built out a broader creator ecosystem. Its wireless microphone system, for example, integrates directly with its cameras without requiring an external receiver. Moreover, this is something Luna is expected to support as part of a more seamless setup.

The bigger question is how Luna positions itself against DJI’s upcoming Pocket refresh. DJI effectively created and refined the pocket gimbal category. It remains the benchmark for compact stabilised cameras. If Luna delivers on modular flexibility or dual-camera versatility at a competitive price, it could give content creators a genuine alternative for the first time in years.

For now, details remain limited. But with a confirmed launch window before mid-2026, Insta360’s challenge to DJI is no longer speculation – it’s officially on the roadmap.
