Selfie cameras are never the most powerful shooters on a smartphone, leaving you stuck with your device’s weaker recording tools for your more personal shots. Insta360’s latest accessory is designed to fix that by switching to your main camera.

The Insta360 Snap attachable screen previews photos before you shoot and lets you watch videos as you record. You can use your phone’s rear camera without worrying about timers, framing, or your phone’s settings.

The Snap attaches via USB-C and uses a 3.5-inch touch screen to show you which photo you’re about to take. That display is 480-by-800 pixels with a peak brightness of 550 nits and a 60Hz refresh rate.

This isn’t an entirely new idea, but many rivals use the tech without a wired connection, so Insta360 argues that its solution offers lower latency and more stable connectivity. That’s particularly helpful when recording high-quality video or using these cameras for a livestream.

If you have a MagSafe iPhone, it’ll attach to your device, meaning it’ll work with the iPhone 15 series and later. The iPhone 17e is MagSafe-compatible, but Insta360 doesn’t list that phone on its website, so it’s unclear whether it’ll work.

The device also works with all Android phones that have a USB-C port and support DisplayPort Alt Mode. That’s a lot of flagship phones from major Android makers, but we’d recommend checking that your device is under the Compatible devices section on Insta360’s website. For example, the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 8 are listed, but the Pixel 10 series and other Pixel 9 phones are not.

If you opt for the cheapest Snap, it costs $79.99, but paying an extra $10 gets you a version with a built-in light for when you’re filming videos or taking shots. Orders directly from Insta360 include free shipping, and the accessory is available now.
