Leaked Steam Machine pricing suggests it won’t be cheap

Valve’s long‑rumoured Steam Machine looks set to demand a premium price.

A Czech retailer leak first spotted on Reddit points to two models: a 512GB Steam Machine that’ll allegedly set you back around $950, while a larger 2TB model may come in at around $1,070.

These figures, pulled from the site’s source code, suggest Valve’s hybrid PC‑console will cost significantly more than mainstream rivals such as the PlayStation 5 Pro or Xbox Series X, which remain subsidised by Sony and Microsoft.

For context, Sony’s PS5 Pro retails at about $699 in the States, while Microsoft’s Xbox Series X sits closer to $649. Even the standard PS5 disc edition comes in at $549. Valve’s leaked pricing puts the Steam Machine in a different bracket, making it nearly 50% more expensive than Sony’s flagship console.

Here’s a quick visual to get you acquainted with the price:

Device Storage Price (USD)
Steam Machine 512GB $950 (unconfirmed)
Steam Machine 2TB $1,070 (unconfirmed)
PlayStation 5 Pro 2TB $699
Xbox Series X 1TB $649
PS5 Disc Edition 1TB $549

Gamers hoping for a living‑room PC at console‑like prices may feel disappointed. Rising hardware costs, particularly NAND shortages, appear to be driving prices higher.

Valve has not confirmed official figures, but if these leaks hold true, the Steam Machine will target enthusiasts willing to pay for performance rather than casual players.

Opinion

Valve’s ambition crosses borders. True. But the leaked pricing raises tough questions.

At nearly $1,000, the Steam Machine risks alienating gamers who expect console affordability. Unless Valve offers unique features or bundles to justify the cost, many will stick to cheaper alternatives.

However, those who crave a powerful living‑room PC could still see this as an investment worth their time.
