Prime Day’s Best Desktop Deal Isn’t at Amazon, It’s at HP: $1,000 Off an Omen PC With RTX 5070

As PCMag’s Lead Analyst for hardware, I’ve been at our lab benches since 2015—and I’ve reviewed hundreds of PCs here over the last decade. I see a lot of general-use, ultraportable, and gaming laptops in particular, plus plenty of high-power desktops from major manufacturers and boutique vendors.

Shopping for desktops online can be particularly tricky, and during widespread sales like Prime Day, it can be overwhelming. Identifying the best deal out there—especially where big sales are concerned—revolves around finding the best combination of design, processors, graphics cards, and (of course) price.

Desktops are available across a wide price range, with myriad specs and components to consider that not everyone is equipped to dissect. Plus, towers come in many sizes, future upgradability is a consideration, and users still need to pair the PC with compatible accessories like a suitable monitor.

Like laptops, no one desktop will be right for everyone, but the best sale prices still stand out. While Amazon is offering more discounts than you can count during Prime Day, this time around, I found the best desktop deal elsewhere.

It turns out, right now, manufacturers’ direct websites are offering some of the biggest discounts available, and HP’s deal on its Omen 45L stands out. This is a high-end gaming desktop, so low-demand general users need not apply, but the discount is steep. The base model is normally listed at $2,629.99, but it’s currently on sale for 22% off, bringing the price down by $600. That’s only half of the draw, however, as a discount code “LEVELUP20” (as of this writing), gives buyers an additional 20% off. That brings the price down to $1,623.99, just over $1,000 off the usual list price.

(Don’t miss out on any of the savings as Prime Day winds down. Make sure to keep an eye on our overall roundup of the Best Prime Day 2025 Deals.)

$1,000 OFF IS A GOOD OMEN

What do you get with this deal? The base model includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card, 16GB of memory, and a 1TB SSD. These are all snappy, modern parts suitable for mainstream gaming, though I find the Omen a bit expensive purely on a performance basis for these parts. However, that doesn’t account for the whole system, and it’s also what makes this significant discount so appealing.

In fact, with that much of a price cut, I would even look beyond the base model; large PC makers like HP and Dell allow a lot of customization when ordering. Once you’re looking at costs over $1,600 for a desktop, you’ve left budget systems far behind, and adding a few hundred dollars more will make a noticeable performance difference. If you have more money to spend, I would suggest, at minimum, upgrading to an RTX 5070 Ti GPU and 32GB of memory, which would bring the post-discount total to $1,911.99 (before taxes).

Recommended by Our Editors

While we haven’t reviewed the 45L itself, we did rate the similar Omen 35L highly, awarding it an Editors’ Choice last year. So, we can generally attest to the design and build quality of these systems, and while you can gauge the style for yourself, it’s a classy tower overall. The case includes some fan lighting without going over the top, as well as a big glass side window so you can see the components inside.

We found the Omen cleanly put together, nicely designed, and ready for industry-standard parts for future changes. Much of this counts toward the higher price before even getting to the components, and when you factor in $1,000 off, it becomes far more appealing. Industry-standard parts—rather than the bespoke designs we see even in other mass market towers—add to the appeal.

This deal on the Omen 45L is among the biggest desktop discounts we’ve seen on Prime Day, both in terms of a percentage off the list price and your total cash savings. Just remember to add the discount code to your order!
