What difference can we observe between the two new Samsung models, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra? Answer in this complete comparison.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra have just been unveiled by Samsung. The Korean brand has lifted the veil on a new family of folding smartphones with two different formats. A classic Fold format for Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultraand a new “passport” format for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 which seems to be a compromise between the Fold and the Flip.
To choose which of the two new models would suit you best, let’s dissect the differences between the two Samsung phones.
Design: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a more square format at Samsung
In terms of design, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra are very easy to differentiate. Indeed, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 introduces a brand new “passport” type screen format, more compact with dimensions of 123.9 mm x 161.4 mm x 4.5 mm when open, 123.9 mm x 81.9 mm x 9.7 mm when closed. It is the lightest Fold model ever produced by the brand, weighing only 201 grams.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is a bit thinner with dimensions of 158.4mm x 1443.2mm x 4.1mm when opened and 158.4mm x 72.8mm x 8.9mm when closed. All for a total weight of 215 grams. Aesthetically speaking, it is a continuation of last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, in every way.
Both smartphones feature a reinforced Armor aluminum frame as well as a reinforced hinge. They are both IP48 certified.
Screen: are you more productivity or multimedia?
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a 7.6-inch AMOLED main screen and adopts an open 4:3 aspect ratio in landscape mode. By switching the device to portrait mode, the screen changes to a 3:4 ratio. Once the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is completely closed, the 6.5-inch external screen offers a classic 10:16 ratio. A new format that should fit easily into your pockets.

The two new models benefit from a panel reinforcement technology called Flex Titanium and Vision Booster adaptive brightness technology. The two internal screens of the two new smartphones have a refresh rate of 120 Hz as well as a peak maximum brightness announced at 3,000 nits.
Photos and videos: a more muscular Ultra version
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 has the minimum sensors expected for a high-end smartphone, that is to say a 50 Mpx wide-angle sensor and a 50 Mpx ultra-wide-angle sensor.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra raises the bar with a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Even if the name “Ultra” seems overrated, when it comes to photos, the advantage clearly goes to the Z Fold 8 Ultra.
The internal sensor, which is used for selfies, is the same on the Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra and displays 10 Mpx.
Processor: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
The two smartphones are equipped with the same processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with the same number of cores, i.e. Octa-Core, and an identical clock rate of 4.74GHz, 3.6GHz. The RAM of the two smartphones is also similar at 12 GB.
The performance of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra will then probably be similar, although they are two folding phones, which are more prone to heating than traditional smartphones. This format could potentially have an impact on performance and therefore cause trolling.
Note that although these are only two folding smartphones, their formats are different, one of the two may therefore heat up less than the other and therefore, therefore, be more efficient.
Software: Android 16 and One UI 9
On the software side, the two new Samsung smartphones run Android 16 and One UI 9. They therefore both have the same update duration, i.e. 7 years. In terms of connectivity, the two smartphones are compatible with 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Battery and charging: finally carbon silicon
The two new Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra both have a silicon-carbon battery, although the capacity is not the same between the two new models.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a battery capacity of 4800 mAh which promises to offer up to 26 hours of video playback time. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has a battery capacity of 5000 mAh, which should allow it, according to the brand, to last 27 hours of video playback.
On the charging side, the new models have the same charging capacity, i.e. 45 W and 20 W for wireless charging.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is available in Graphite and White colors, as well as exclusive Lavender and Pistachio shades. The smartphone is available in three storage versions:
