Valve just published the latest Steam Survey monthly figures to provide insight on various software and hardware trends across this dominant gaming ecosystem. One of the most interesting measurements is the monthly changes in the size of the Linux gaming marketshare.

Back in November Steam on Linux use hit an all-time high of 3.2%, then in December Steam on Linux hit 3.58%, and for January settled at 3.38%. Now the February numbers are out and Linux is coming in at… 2.23%.

The current figures put Linux 1.15% lower for February compared to January.

Steam Survey Feb 2026 language use

Like with prior times where there are wild drops in Linux use, the Steam Survey shows Simplified Chinese use running up by 30% month over month. Whenever there is such significant differences in language use tends to be a reporting anomaly and negatively impacting Linux.

Valve often puts out corrected/updated figures later on, so we’ll see if that is again the case for this February data. Those interested in the current February numbers can find all the data on SteamPowered.com.
