The Shenzhen Qianhai Development Zone announced new progress on Tencent’s new headquarters project, Penguin Island, located in the Dachan Bay area of Qianhai. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and construction of the landmark headquarters building will begin in early 2025. Construction of Tencent’s new headquarters in Shenzhen Qianhai began in mid-2021, backed by an investment of RMB 31.9 billion ($4.47 billion). The project spans 809,000 square meters of land with a total built-up area of 2 million square meters and will accommodate 75,000 office staff. The Tencent headquarters, situated at the center of Penguin Island, features four spiraling towers designed to resemble a high-speed engine, earning it the name Technology Engine. Public facilities, including a technology exhibition hall, cultural center, and sports center, will be open to the public upon completion. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2026.
