Tesla increases the prices of its Superchargers in France, prices explode at certain times

Tesla has increased the prices of some of its Superchargers in France, reaching more than 0.70 euros per kWh at certain times, excluding subscriptions.

More than 0.70 euros per kWh displayed on certain Supercharger stations, at specific times. Prices for some Tesla charging stations have recently seen a significant increase. What are the solutions to get around the problem?

Prices skyrocketing at certain stations

Tesla recently decided to significantly increase the prices of its Superchargers in France. As a reminder, Superchargers work with dynamic pricing. Prices therefore vary depending on the time of day, but also the location of the station and the energy market. Owners of Tesla vehicles benefit, unsurprisingly, from reduced prices, while those who have a vehicle from another brand can subscribe to the Supercharger subscription, billed at 11.99 euros per month, in order to benefit from these same reduced prices.

For those who don’t have Tesla vehicles or a Supercharger subscription, the situation is a little more complicated currently. Just go to the Tesla app to note the significant increases in certain Superchargers in France. The Livry-Gargan station, for example, displays no less than 0.70 euros per kWh from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., then falling to 0.30 euros per kWh. Worse still, the Le Chesnay station displays 0.74 euros per kWh from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., then falling to 0.44 euros after 7 p.m. and to 0.32 euros at midnight.

More generally, prices remain relatively low in the morning and at night, for owners of Tesla vehicles and those who have subscribed to the Supercharger subscription, but also for owners of vehicles from other brands who have not subscribed to this subscription. On the other hand, during the day, prices can vary between 0.50 and 0.74 euros, excluding subscription, per kWh for owners of vehicles of other brands, as we have seen above..

What can I do to avoid paying the full price?

The first solution that comes to mind is to perform a recharge in the morning or eveningnot to mention at night. Easier said than done. Another solution: subscribe to the Supercharger subscription, billed at 11.99 euros per month, in order to benefit from the same reduced prices reserved for Tesla vehicle owners. As a reminder, this subscription is open to all electric vehicles. You will then be able to benefit from prices which vary between €0.38 and €0.55 per kWh during the day, and therefore during peak hours.

There is still one solution that we haven’t mentioned yet: go to one of Tesla’s competitors. For example, for €9.99 per month, the Electra subscription allows you to recharge at €0.29/kWh on their own terminals and at €0.49/kWh on the ChargeLeague network (including Ionity, Atlante and Fastned).
