If you are like most people, you probably have a bunch of electronics on or near your desk. But the more devices you have, the more of a pain it is to connect everything neatly. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to just clean up your messy cables if you can’t clearly visualize your setup. Claude can help by turning even the most complicated tangle of wires into a straightforward, interactive diagram you can use as a roadmap to organize every last cable you own.
Claude Turns Your Words Into Interactive Diagrams Instantly
Making visualizations with Claude is incredibly simple: All you need to do is ask it to visualize something, and it creates one right in your chat window. The specific kind of graphic the chatbot creates depends on the nature of your prompt. It might be a flowchart or an interactive illustration, for example. Other chatbots just can’t do this. If you ask ChatGPT to visualize something, it creates a pseudo diagram with text, while Gemini can’t manage even that.
In response to my cable management prompt, Claude created an interactive diagram with a series of squares representing my devices, all connected via colored lines indicating different cable types. I can even hover over a particular device to highlight it and everything connected to it, and hide or show power cables with a toggle.
Claude’s visualizations are available to all Claude users, including free ones, though only via its desktop and web apps. After you generate a visualization with Claude, you can save, publish, and share it via a link. If you don’t choose to save them, they disappear when your conversation moves on. Keep in mind that Claude’s visualization feature is still in beta, at the time of writing, so you might experience some bugs or glitches.
Tame Your Cable Chaos With a Single Prompt
If you intend to visualize your cable setup, start with a detailed description. In my case, I prompted Claude with the following:
“I want you to help me visualize my cable management. I have a laptop, PC, PS5, and Switch 2, alongside two monitors (one 34-inch ultrawide and one 48-inch 16:9) and a receiver. My PC, PS5, and Switch all connect via HDMI to my receiver, and then my receiver connects to my 48-inch monitor via HDMI. However, my PS5 connects to an HDMI switch, which then connects to my receiver and to my ultrawide monitor. My laptop connects directly to my ultrawide monitor via USB-C. I also have USB switches. One switch connects to my headphone DAC, keyboard, microphone, and mouse, and then it connects to my laptop, PC, and PS5. The other switch connects to my webcam and then to my laptop and PC.”

In just a minute or two, Claude created a visualization of my cable management setup. From there, I added further detail to my visualization, including DisplayPort connections from my PC to both monitors, power cabling for all my devices, and speakers. Claude’s visualization quickly encompassed the entire electronics on my desk.
Once you have a diagram, it’s easy to make changes to your cable management. For example, if I want to add an Xbox, I can look at the cabling I did for my PS5 and Switch 2 to see exactly what I need. Alternatively, I can just ask Claude, “Based on the visualization, what additional cabling do I need for an Xbox?”

When cables are a garbled mess somewhere out of sight, it’s tough to understand what’s going on. However, seeing everything clearly in a diagram makes things much easier, especially if you did your original management months or years ago. Once you’re sure everything is connected as it should be, then you can invest time (and money) into accessories, such as cable clips or zip ties, to keep things out of sight and tidy.
You can even use Claude to diagnose cable management problems. For example, I asked Claude, “Based on my cable management, why can’t I get sound from my receiver when my PS5 is connected to my ultrawide monitor?” Claude told me that the HDMI signal gets routed directly to my ultrawide monitor, bypassing my receiver, and suggested an HDMI splitter, which would duplicate the signal and send it to both my receiver and ultrawide monitor.
Claude Isn’t Just for Cables—Organize Your Entire Desk
Cable management is just one use case for Claude’s visualizations. You can just as easily ask the chatbot to arrange all of the tech on your desk or help you place speakers for optimal surround sound. The only way you’ll know if it can solve your problem is to try it out. Claude already seems to handle complexity quite well based on my experience, so I’m excited to see how its visualization feature improves from here.
