Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are being made available to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 owners later this week – this is how much the classic GameBoy Advance games will set you back.

Originally released in 2002 Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are remakes of the OG Red & Blue Games that introduced improved graphics, audio and new post-game areas such as the Sevii Islands.

Last week, Nintendo confirmed the remakes would finally be coming to modern consoles as part of the 30th anniversary celebrations of Pokémon. Unlike other GameBoy Advance games though, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen won’t be available via the Nintendo Switch Online Library with gamers needing to buy the titles from the eShop. An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is not needed.

How much will Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen cost?

both Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen will be available via the eShop from Friday February 27 at 2pm GMT. Each one is priced at £16.99 and is available to pre-order now.

“Some excitement doesn’t fade no matter how many years pass. Whether it’s choosing your first partner Pokémon, confronting a sinister organization or encountering a legend, a world of dreams and adventures with Pokémon awaits. Let’s go,” reads the listing.

There will be no physical release for either game. Local wireless play for battling and trading will be possible, though online features are not supported. It’s expected the games will eventually work with Pokémon Home – which allows gamers to trade their ‘mon between titles – but it won’t be compatible at launch.

In a FAQ, Nintendo explained why the original Red & Blue aren’t being released. “We thought users will appreciate the ultimate versions of those original adventures, which add various features and upgrades.”

To celebrate the news, the soundtrack to FireRed & LeafGreen is also available to stream via Nintendo Music now with 43 tracks available.

A Pokémon Day Presents is also set to air at 2pm GMT on Friday and will last for 25 minutes. Fans are expecting updates on Champions and Pokopiaas well as possible reveals for the next generation of ‘mon following Scarlet & Violet‘s launch back in 2022. You’ll be able to watch it live here.

In other news, Download Festival has confirmed 12 more names for the 2026 event – including final fantasy 14 metal covers band The Primals.
