Have you heard of the Edge 70 Fusion? This Motorola smartphone, which we will soon test, has been released by the brand in a Power version with a larger battery. We decided to test their autonomy at 01lab, to compare the results of the two smartphones.

Released last March, the Edge 70 Fusion completes the mid-range from the manufacturer Motorola. Presented at €499, it includes the processor Snapdragon 7s Gen 3as well as a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with 144 Hz refresh. In terms of autonomy, the Edge 70 Fusion is equipped with a 5200 mAh battery.

This is where Motorola offers us a little fantasy by offering this smartphone in a more muscular version in terms of the battery : the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion Power. Rarely, the technical sheet is completely identical, apart from the battery with a capacity greater than 7000 mAh.

These two similar models, only the battery capacity differentiates them, aroused our interest in a duel of autonomy. Indeed, the processor, the screen or the software optimization influence the autonomy. Here, the only difference on the technical sheet being the battery capacity, this makes the comparison all the more interesting.

The 01lab autonomy test

At 01Lab, we test smartphones comprehensively, which includes calculating battery life. Several different uses are used to reproduce the typical day of an average user. Several usage scenarios such as 3D calculation or web browsing are thus used.

Battery life: results and comparisons between the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion and the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion Power

Battery capacity difference

The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion has a battery capacity of 5200 mAh. The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion in its Power version has a battery capacity of 7000 mAh. The extra 1800 mAh represents an increase of 25.7%. This difference in capacity could be explained by the increasingly widespread use of a silicon carbon battery. Remember that this technology allows for a greater battery capacity for the same size.

Normalized autonomy difference

By following a strictly identical protocol, we tested the autonomy of the two smartphones. The “classic” Motorola Edge 70 Fusion gets an autonomy of 18 h 26 min while its Power version reaches 23 hor 24.7% increase in autonomy.

By pushing our calculations further, we can deduce that the normalized autonomy (duration for 100 mAh) of the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion is 21.3 min/100 mAh. The Edge 70 Fusion Power reaches 19.7 min/100 mAh. The efficiency in minutes per 100 mAh is therefore slightly to the advantage of the “classic” model with 1.5 min/100 mAh.

If the 70 Fusion Power had had the same efficiency as the model with a smaller battery, it would have gone from an autonomy of 23 hours to 25 hours. This difference of around 8% is actually not huge, although it is definitely present.

What about the load?

We took advantage of this opportunity to test the loadwhich is also announced to be similar between the two models at 68 W. The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion charges in 69 min, while the Power version charges in 75 min. Which represents 8% more charging time for the Edge 70 Fusion Power.

Peak power under load

Interestingly, even though the Edge 70 Fusion Power has a longer full charge time, it charges faster with a higher peak and average charge. This is explained by a greater battery capacity to fill.

If we compare the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion with other models in the same range such as the Nothing Phone (4a), the Redmi Note 15 5G and the Samsung Galaxy A57 with similar battery capacities, it offers average performance. The Power version, for its part, fares better thanks to its greater battery capacity, but is far from being an autonomy champion.

Battery capacity Mixed autonomy

The difference in battery capacity and therefore autonomy is accompanied by a small difference in price. The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion is on offer priced at €499 while its Power version is priced at €529. That’s a difference of only €30. In this specific case, we can only advise you to choose the more muscular version, the Motorola Edge 70 Fusion Power.
