The tablet was also good for a short game in between. One of the games I installed on the Galaxy was Cut the Rope. Here is the description of the game according to Wikipedia: “Cut the Rope is about feeding candy to a green animal called “Om Nom” (American slang for Cookie Monster) in a box. The candy hangs on a rope that can be cut with your finger or mouse to get it into Om Nom’s mouth“.

But even more popular was the inevitable Fruit Ninja, which you can find here on Google Play: “In the game, the player must cut up fruits that are thrown into the air by swiping their fingers across the device’s touchscreen or using motion controls using arms and hands.” I developed considerable fruit cutting skills in the game that I never achieved in the kitchen in real life.

Just a single measly Android update

So everything was good. The question slowly arose in my mind as to whether I would get the next Android version. After all, I owned a relatively new and powerful tablet from one of the leading hardware manufacturers. Samsung delivered my tablet with Android 3.1. In fact, I just got another subversion of Android. After that it was over, no further new Android version reached my tablet. That was the first disappointment.

And then the unexpected death

But things got even worse. Shortly after the warranty period expired, one day the screen stopped turning on. Without any warning, the tablet had worked perfectly the day before. At first I thought the battery was empty. So I let it charge first, but the screen didn’t show any information during the charging process.

After some time I tried to start it again. No reaction, even the forced restart/hard reset with the corresponding key combination was unsuccessful. The Galaxy Tab simply remained dead after barely two years. Without it having been dropped or otherwise damaged. From one day to the next. An absolute nonsense for such an expensive device.

Since I could no longer use my beloved HTC Desire with a clear conscience due to a massive lack of memory and a lack of Android updates, I decided to go for the “dark side of the force”. And bought an iPad for the first time. To date, there have never been any problems with this iPad and its successors. Whenever I replaced my iPad with a newer model, my relatives inherited the old device. It continued to provide loyal service there for many years – and still does so today.
