It’s now official. The price of the console Nintendo Switch 2 will increase in several key markets. From September 1, it will go from €469.99 to 499,99 €an increase of €30 in Europe (+6%).
For the same period, price adjustments are planned in the United States and Canada, where the console will reach $499.99 (+11%) and 679.99 Canadian dollars (+8%). In Japan, a price increase for the Nintendo Switch 2 to 59,980 yen (+20%) will be applied on May 25.
Why such a decision now?
This price increase is not a surprise. Like its competitors, Nintendo is facing rising prices component pricesparticularly for RAM and storage. The Kyoto firm is thus following a trend similar to that of Sony for the PS5.
This strategy marks a break with years of pricing policy where the price of consoles systematically decreased after their launch. Inflation, tensions on supply chains and logistics costs have made this business model obsolete.
” We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers. “Nintendo said.
What impact on sales forecasts?
Despite this price increase, Nintendo remains confident. The console had a stellar launch, with 19.86 million units sold in its first fiscal year, surpassing the debut of the original Switch.
For its 2027 fiscal year, Nintendo plans to sell 16.5 million units. If this figure represents a drop, Nintendo mentions a solid adoption level for the Nintendo Switch 2 in its second year.
This slight decline is attributed to both price revisions and a concentration of sales during the launch year.
The Japanese market is a special case
Japan is experiencing more severe and faster increases. Apart from the price of the Switch 2, a price increase from May 25 also concerns old models with the classic Switch, the one with an OLED screen and the Switch Lite.
Services are not spared, since Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions will also see their prices increase.
