What’s the biggest limitation of AI tools today?
AI can be incredibly helpful, but it still has its limits. What do you think is the biggest limitation of AI tools today?
Hallucinations won, and it wasn’t even close. At 31%, it is twice as much as any single option behind it. Everything else landed closer to each other, around 13-20%. This close result signals the community doesn’t see one runner-up problem but rather a group of daily frustrations.
Trust Is Not Something One Can Engineer Away
Cost, speed, and integrations are solvable. GPUs can get cheaper, and APIs can get faster. Apps like Zapier add another connector and can easily simplify AI workflows.
Hallucination is different. Every time a model fabricates a citation or invents a statistic, it doesn’t just create an error; doubts are created that affect every query after. That’s a trust problem, and the sentiment around the poll reflected exactly this:
I think it’s Accuracy. I have been recently trying to have LLM do some pretty complicated engineering problems like structural/thermodynamic analysis and it will just make up processes and calculations that make no sense – @benidev
The Tie Worth Paying Attention To
Context/Memory and Cost ran neck to neck with 20% and 19% respectively, and the more interesting signal is Context.
I actually voted for context over hallucination since I think the risk of everybody sounding the exact same is higher and more insidious than people being confidently wrong – @linh
This comment from a voter put “Context” into perspective. Trained on the same data, nudged by the same feedback loops, deployed at scale: AI pulls every output toward the same register, the same rhythm, the same framing. Hallucinations are loud failures, but homogenization is a silent one that compounds.

The 21% who disagree need a lot to go right: NVIDIA down 50%, a major lab in bankruptcy. That’s a high bar. But here’s the irony: a tool that hallucinates, forgets context, and still struggles to fit cleanly into real workflows is one that hasn’t fully delivered on its promise yet, and it seems like that doesn’t matter.
