A few days after OpenAI’s announcements for ChatGPT and GPT-Live, Anthropic responds with an update. Until now confined to the Haiku model, the Claude’s vocal mode can now harness the power of Opus and Sonnet models, designed for solving complex problems.

A transformed user experience

So far, Anthropic acknowledges that Claude’s voice mode was optimized for quick responses, but not always for deep conversations. However, users quickly adopted the tool for longer work sessions and real professional problems.

The integration of Sonnet and Opus models marks a real evolution. These models allow you to carry out in-depth reflections, prepare a customer pitch or even receive feedback on your communication style. The AI can ask relevant follow-up questions.

With connection to third-party applications

With voice mode, Claude can now interact with tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack or Canva. A user can, for example, ask Claude to postpone a meeting by 30 minutes or turn a conversation into a presentation on Canva.

This is a notable difference from ChatGPT. Despite its recent conversational improvements, OpenAI’s voice mode is not yet capable of using different tools to accomplish tasks.

Anthropic specifies that Claude will always ask permission before using a connected tool.

Voice mode now runs on Claude’s more capable models and reaches the tools you’ve connected mid-conversation.

In beta and not free with Claude

The update is available in beta for all users on mobile, desktop, and web apps. Anthropic has also expanded language support, including French, German, Spanish and Portuguese, among others.

Users of the free version will however be limited to the Haiku model and the connection of a single tool. Paying subscribers benefit from full access to the Opus and Sonnet models, as well as all their connected tools.

Anthropic indicates that voice usage is counted against the usual usage limits.
