The ongoing memory chip shortage has caused yet another laptop manufacturer to raise prices. As reported by Windows Central, prices for Microsoft Surface laptops have increased by $100 to $300, depending on the model.
The revised prices are now live on the Microsoft Store, mainly affecting Snapdragon-powered laptops.
The 2024 Surface Laptop (13.8-inch) and Surface Pro (13-inch) were among the first Microsoft devices to feature Snapdragon X-series processors. Both models were launched at $999, with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as the base configuration. They now start at $1,499, with 512GB as the minimum storage option.
The 15-inch Surface Laptop is also getting a price hike. The Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptop launched at $1,299 in 2024, increased to $1,499 in 2025, and now starts at $1,599 for the 16GB RAM and 256GB storage configuration.
From the models launched last year, the 12-inch Surface Pro now starts at $1,049, going up by $250 from its launch price of $799. The 13-inch Surface Laptop, meanwhile, has gone from $899 to $1,199.
The 12-inch Surface Pro was meant to be an affordable midrange option. However, it now costs a lot more than Apple’s entry-level MacBook Neo, which launched earlier this year at just $599.

“Due to recent increases in memory and component costs, Surface is updating pricing on Microsoft.com for its current‑generation hardware portfolio,” a Microsoft spokesperson tells Windows Central. “We remain committed to delivering value to customers and partners while upholding our standards for quality and innovation.”
The surge in memory and component costs is largely driven by the rapid development of AI data centers, which are absorbing a significant share of global chip supply. Other laptop manufacturers that have announced price hikes due to the same development include Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
