Mozilla has introduced Thunderbolt, an AI client that is intended to serve as a front end for locally hosted AI solutions, as Ars Technica reports. Thunderbolt is based on the open source framework Haystack and, according to the manufacturer, should enable companies to put together their own AI systems with components of their own choosing.

Users should be able to connect the client to various models and APIs such as Claude, Codex, Openclaw, Deepseek, Open Code and the OpenAI API. The entire infrastructure is run locally, according to Mozilla. Additionally, Thunderbolt supports functions such as chat, search, research and automation.

The project is currently still in development. It is currently undergoing a security review before being rolled out more widely. The client will be available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android and the web. (tf)
