The traditional welcome message received on your smartphone when crossing a border was often limited to a reminder of the roaming rates. These times are changing. Under the leadership of the government, operators Orange et SFR enrich this first contact to make it a real safety reflexconnecting travelers directly to the emergency services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
What security services are now available?
The major innovation lies in the integration of a unique link referring to two essential devices. The first is the page “Advice for travelers” from the Quai d’Orsay. It details for each country the security levelhealth recommendations and the latest local news that may impact your stay.
The second tool, even more strategic, is the “Breadcrumbs”. What a service free allows French people to report their dates and places of stay. In case of major crisis (natural disaster, attack or sudden political instability), consular authorities can thus directly contact nationals present in the area concerned to provide them with security instructions.

I am proud to announce that as a result of our joint work, @Orange has just added a link to the Travel Advice page of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs in its SMS messages sent upon arrival abroad, as well as when purchasing a Travel Pass.…

What is the deployment schedule for operators?
SFR was the pioneerputting this system in place at the beginning of July. Orange quickly followed, announcing a testing phase for the month of August, a strategic period coinciding with the big departures on vacation summer. This experiment aims to validate the robustness of the device before wider deployment.
The initiative, welcomed by Éléonore Caroit, Minister Delegate responsible for French people abroad, will not stop there. The government has confirmed that discussions are actively being held with the two other major national operators, Free Mobile et Bouygues Telecomin order to generalize this practice.

Towards a generalization beyond telecoms?
The stated objective is clear: to ensure that every French citizen traveling across borders can easily access this vital information. The channel of SMS operator is particularly effective, because it reaches the traveler at the precise moment they need it, as soon as they connect to the local network.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not intend to limit itself to telecom operators alone. Talks are also said to be underway with several airlines. The idea would be to integrate these same security links at other touchpoints in the traveler journey, such as flight confirmation emails or carrier mobile applications.
