If you’ve been noticing something a little off about your Galaxy S26 Ultra photos at 3x zoom, you’re not imagining things. Samsung has confirmed the problem and already rolled out a fix through its latest software update.

Galaxy S26 Ultra owners flagged blurry 3x zoom shots

Over the past few weeks, Galaxy S26 Ultra owners have taken to Samsung’s community forums to report a pretty annoying issue: photos shot at 3x zoom were coming out noticeably blurry. According to a new report, the problem showed up even in bright environments, but it got significantly worse when shooting in low light with the flash on.
One user went as far as sending Samsung diagnostic logs, and the company confirmed the bug was on its radar. Samsung’s response said the issue was “scheduled to be fixed and improved in a future software upgrade,” though it couldn’t give a specific timeline at that point.

Samsung’s April patch squashes the bug

Samsung didn’t sit on this for long, thankfully. An official community moderator confirmed the blurry 3x zoom problem was addressed in the April 2026 security patch, which is already rolling out to devices. If you haven’t grabbed it yet, head to Settings > Software update > Check for updates to check if it’s available to you at this time. Note that it hasn’t shown up for me yet here in the U.S.
Credit where it’s due, though: this is a relatively quick turnaround. Camera bugs on flagship phones tend to snowball into PR headaches fast, so Samsung getting ahead of this before it blew up was the smart move.

A $1,300 phone should nail the basics out of the box

That said, you shouldn’t need a patch to make the zoom camera work properly on a phone that costs $1,300. The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s camera upgrades were a major selling point this year, with the wider f/1.4 aperture on the main sensor and a brighter 5x telephoto getting most of the spotlight. Meanwhile, the 3x zoom lens, still using a smaller 10MP sensor, was already the least impressive part of the camera setup.

Our Galaxy S26 Ultra review found that the phone scores roughly on par with its predecessor in camera testing overall. For users already feeling let down by the S26 Ultra’s incremental upgrades, a buggy zoom camera was probably the last thing they needed.

Quick fix, but don’t forget why it was needed

I have a Galaxy S26 Ultra myself, and I hadn’t actually noticed this problem, mostly because 3x isn’t a zoom level I reach for all that often. But for people who rely on that middle zoom range for everyday shots (think food photos, group pictures, anything at arm’s length), this would’ve been a real pain.

Samsung handled this one responsibly by pushing a fix out fast instead of letting users stew. That counts for something. But it’s also a reminder that even the most polished flagships can trip over the small stuff right out of the gate. If you’re still seeing blurriness, go update your phone. The fix is waiting for you.
