Samsung has confirmed it’s working on a fix for a camera issue affecting the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

While it’s not something most users will notice, it’s still worth keeping an eye on. This is especially true if you like tweaking your shots.

According to Sammy Guru, the problem centres on the Virtual Aperture feature inside Samsung’s Expert RAW app. Initially, a user flagged that images shot at 5x zoom weren’t rendering correctly. The subject separation and background blur looked off compared to what the tool is meant to deliver.

Virtual Aperture is designed to give you more manual control over depth of field. It essentially mimics the blurred background effect you’d expect from a dedicated camera. It’s not part of the standard camera app either, which explains why this hasn’t been a widespread complaint.

The feature also has a bit of recent history. Telephoto support was first introduced on the newer Samsung Galaxy S26 series. Later, Samsung rolled it out to older devices like the S25 Ultra. That expansion may be where things started to get a little shaky.

Samsung was quick to respond on its community forums, confirming it had replicated the issue internally. The company then passed it along for further analysis. More importantly, a fix is already planned and will arrive via a future One UI 8.5 update delivered as a firmware (FOTA) patch.

To be clear, this isn’t a dealbreaker bug. It only shows up in a fairly niche shooting mode. Most people sticking to the default camera app likely won’t encounter it at all. Still, for users who rely on Expert RAW for more control, it’s good to see Samsung acknowledge the issue early. This is better than quietly patching it later.

It’s also a reminder that as smartphone cameras get more advanced and more experimental. So, the chances of smaller quirks like this popping up are only going to increase.

For now, if your portrait shots look a little off at longer zoom levels, you’re not imagining it — and Samsung says help is on the way.
